Irwin-01 exploration well

The Irwin-01 exploration well is located on agricultural land 23km east of Dongara. The well straddles the EP320 exploration permit and L1 permit. The Irwin-01 well was completed in May 2015 and reached a target depth of 4,049 metres in four weeks.

The well is designed to target the same potential reservoirs intersected by the Senecio-03 well. The primary targets were the Dongara/Wagina sandstones, which were intersected during drilling operations. During drilling operations, Mitsui E&P’s predecessor AWE announced elevated gas shows were observed.

The drilling rig used for Irwin-01 was demobilised from site and used to drill the Waitsia-01 appraisal well.

Future plans

  • No flow testing is planned for the Irwin-01 well.
  • The well has been suspended and the well pad has been partially rehabilitated. Beach Energy, the permit holder, has taken over management of the site.
