Schedule of Activities

Our projects in the Perth Basin cover the various stages of project life-cycle. Following are key activities planned for FY 2020/21:

L1/L2 Permit Areas (Shire of Irwin Region)

Activity Description Indicative Timing
Exploration/Appraisal Most recent appraisal activities focused on the Waitsia gas field. Flow tests conducted in 2017 of Waitsia-02, Waitsia-03 and Waitsia-04 appraisal wells showed outstanding flow test results. This appraisal information has been used to supplement data gained from the Waitsia Stage 1 extended production test. No exploration or appraisal drilling is planned for FY 20/21
Production – Waitsia Stage 1 The Stage 1 Expansion was completed in August 2020. It connected a third well to the existing Xyris Production Facility to increase production from 10 TJ/day to 30 TJ/day and also constructed a gas export pipeline to the nearby Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. Production Resumed Q3 2020
Full Field Development – Waitsia Stage 2

Stage 2 will involve connecting up to six wells to a newly constructed 250 TJ/day gas production facility planned to be located near the existing Waitsia Stage 1 gas production at the Xyris Production Facility.

Waitsia Stage 2 is in the execution phase. Regulatory approvals are underway.

Construction is scheduled to begin mid-2021
Perth Basin Decommissioning and Rehabilitation Project

The Hovea Production Facility is not producing and has been in Care and Maintenance since 2010. Redundant equipment is being removed and reused or recycled where practical.

The Dongara Production Facility is being prepared for partial Care and Maintenance as the Dongara gas field ceased production in 2017. Gas processing equipment was decommissioned in January 2021.

Well site decommissioning activities are being undertaken as part of a Mid West permit areas campaign to decommission then rehabilitate sites which are no longer in use.

Five wells during FY 2020/21

L4/L5 Permit Areas (Shire of Carnamah Region)

Activity Description Indicative Timing
Exploration/Appraisal

Two airborne exploration surveys were undertaken over three southern Perth Basin permits – L4/L5 and EP455.

Further assessment of the Woodada gas field, that ceased producing in 2010, is also occurring through desktop studies. This review was prompted by the Waitsia gas field discovery in 2014. Many other companies are also reassessing data for their permits in the northern Perth Basin since this exciting discovery was made.

Airborne exploration surveys were undertaken in October 2020 and completed in January 2021.

No exploration or appraisal drilling is planned for FY 20/21

Planning

Before anything can happen we need to plan carefully. Read more about the planning process.

Exploration/Appraisal

We look for gas, and when we find it we figure out if it’s worth pursuing further. Find out more about our exploration and appraisal process.

Development

Once we’ve confirmed a well is commercially viable we get ready to put it into production. Read more about the development process.

Production

During the production phase we produce gas from the well and sell it. Find out more about the production process.

Decommissioning and Rehabilitation

When the exploration or production activity has finished it’s time to clean up. Read more about how we decommission and rehabilitate a well and its surrounding area.

The Northern Perth Basin

The northern Perth Basin is a prolific oil and gas producing area covering a large portion of the Mid West region of Western Australia. The town of Dongara, located approximately 360km north of Perth, is the regional economic hub for a number of industries, including oil and gas.
