Schedule of Activities
Our projects in the Perth Basin cover the various stages of project life-cycle. Following are key activities planned:
Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2 – Drilling, Testing and Tie-In of Wells
Activity | Description | Indicative Timing |
Waitsia 05 | Drilling completed 24 April. Well testing commenced 29 April, with flaring activities in early May. |
Drilling completed in April 2022 Well testing |
Waitsia 06 | Drilling rig is in place at Waitsia 06 and drilling has commenced. Well testing anticipated to commence in June. |
Drilling underway Well testing |
Waitsia 08 | Drilling anticipated to commence mid-June. |
Drilling Well testing |
Waitsia 07 | Drilling anticipated to commence August. |
Drilling Well testing |
Waitsia 09 | Drilling anticipated to commence mid-September. |
Drilling Well testing |
Waitsia 10 | Drilling anticipated to commence November. |
Drilling Well testing |
L1/L2 Permit Areas (Shire of Irwin Region)
Activity | Description | Indicative Timing |
Production – Waitsia Stage 1 | The Waitsia Stage 1 Expansion – Production continues to produce from three connected wells into the Domestic Market. The facility is capable of processing up to 30TJ/day into the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. | Ongoing |
Full Field Development – Waitsia Stage 2 |
Stage 2 will involve connecting up to six wells to a newly constructed gas production facility planned to be located near the existing Waitsia Stage 1 gas production at the Xyris Production Facility. It will add 250TJ/day production capacity. Waitsia Stage 2 is in the execution phase. |
Construction of Waitsia Stage 2 commenced July 2021 and is scheduled for completion 2023. |
Perth Basin Decommissioning and Rehabilitation Project |
The Dongara Production Facility and Hovea Production Facility are both in Care and Maintenance. Oil and Gas processing equipment on both sites were decommissioned, removed and recycled early in 2021. Well site decommissioning activities are being undertaken as part of a Mid West permit areas campaign to decommission then rehabilitate sites which are no longer in use. |
Ongoing |
Note: All our activities involve conventional gas fields and all ‘Indicative Timing’ is subject to corporate, JV and regulatory approvals.

Planning
Before anything can happen we need to plan carefully. Read more about the planning process.
Exploration/Appraisal
We look for gas, and when we find it we figure out if it’s worth pursuing further. Find out more about our exploration and appraisal process.
Development
Once we’ve confirmed a well is commercially viable we get ready to put it into production. Read more about the development process.
Production
During the production phase we produce gas from the well and sell it. Find out more about the production process.
Decommissioning and Rehabilitation
When the exploration or production activity has finished it’s time to clean up. Read more about how we decommission and rehabilitate a well and its surrounding area.
Sustainable Energy
MEPAU is actively transitioning to a low-carbon energy future.
