Irwin District Charity Ball
Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) sponsors the Irwin District Charity Ball.
The ball is held every two years, with the 2018 ball held on Saturday 20 October.
Committee Chairperson Fiona Cockman says the ball is a community event open to everyone.
She says, “The ball is a good way to bring everyone together. We didn’t have any big functions here before. There was never an occasion to dress up. The community loves the ball, they really look forward to it.”
Fiona says the first ball was organised in 2015, but after the 2016 event the committee decided to make it a biennial event.
She says sponsorship is vital. “We couldn’t run this event without the help of sponsors like MEPAU and other local businesses. We’re a committee of eight people but we can’t do it alone, we really need locals and local businesses to get behind us and help. It’s great that we can rely on MEPAU and others to help us put on the event.”
Tickets are available from the Dongara Port Denison Visitor Centre. Canapés are served at the beginning of the night and Fiona Cockman says the catering is very generous. A live band plays throughout the evening and drinks are available from the bar.
Guests are welcome to form their own tables of ten, or be allocated to a table by the event organisers.
Funds raised on the evening are donated to charities, with beneficiaries in the past having included local organisations as well as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Diabetes WA,Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Ronald McDonald House.
