Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) sponsored the Irwin District Charity Ball held in October 2018.
The ball is held every two years and Chairperson Fiona Cockman says that over 300 guests attended the 2018 event.
“Overall we had a super night and raised more than we expected. After three events, the Irwin District Charity Ball has raised a total of $100,000, which is amazing for a town of this size. Our very generous community is what makes it possible,” she says.
Fiona says it’s a real team effort putting on the ball. “A committee of eight women (and their partners) work hard to make it happen, setting up and packing up the event amongst other things.
“Sponsors large and small provide cash donations, goods and raffle prizes. People work on the bar, sell raffle tickets, provide door security, serve food, cook desserts and help clean up after the event. We organise caterers, photographers and a band.
“It’s a lot of work but it’s so rewarding to see everyone dressed up for the occasion and having a terrific time on the dance floor.”
The Irwin District Charity Ball Inc committee supported Ronald McDonald House and The Wildfire Youth Community with funds raised from the 2018 ball.
